Material Type Seamless Carbon Steel
Grades Grade 6 (Carbon Steel) - Other grades (e.g., 3, 4, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11) are alloy steels.
Chemical Composition Grade 6:
- Carbon (C): ≤0.30%
- Manganese (Mn): 0.29-1.06%
- Phosphorus (P): ≤0.025%
- Sulfur (S): ≤0.025%
- Silicon (Si): ≥0.10%
Mechanical Properties - Tensile Strength: ≥415 MPa (60,200 psi)
- Yield Strength: ≥240 MPa (35,000 psi)
- Elongation (%): ≥30% (50 mm gauge length)
Impact Testing Charpy V-Notch Test required at -45°F (-43°C) for Grade 6 to ensure low-temperature toughness.
Manufacturing Process - Welded via ERW or SAW.
- Heat treatment (normalizing or stress-relieving) may be applied post-welding.
Testing Requirements - Hydrostatic Test: Mandatory.
- Non-Destructive Testing (NDT): Radiography or ultrasonic testing.
- Flattening Test for welded seams.
Temperature Range Designed for low-temperature service (down to -45°F/-43°C for Grade 6).

    • Gr.6 (C-Mn-Si Steel): Low carbon content (≤0.30%), enhanced with manganese and silicon for improved toughness.

    • Gr.9 (3.5% Nickel Steel): Nickel alloyed for superior low-temperature ductility.
       

  3. Mechanical Properties:

    • Tensile Strength: 380-550 MPa (Gr.6) | 485-655 MPa (Gr.9).

    • Yield Strength: ≥205 MPa (Gr.6) | ≥275 MPa (Gr.9).

    • Impact Test: Charpy V-notch tested at -45°C to ensure fracture resistance.
       

  4. Manufacturing & Testing:

    • Heat Treatment: Normalized or normalized + tempered for stress relief.

    • Non-Destructive Testing (NDT): 100% ultrasonic testing (UT) or eddy current inspection.
