Product Description

Product Description

Standard and Material

  1. ASTM A53: A widely adopted standard for carbon steel pipes, specifying both seamless (Schedule 5 to 160) and welded (ERW, EFW, SAW) types for low-to-moderate pressure applications.
  2. Grade B Characteristics:
    • Carbon Content: 0.25% max (manganese 0.9-1.2%), providing a balance of strength, ductility, and weldability.
    • Tensile Strength: Min. 415 MPa (60 ksi), yield strength: Min. 240 MPa (35 ksi).

Comparison with Other Grades (ASTM A53)

Grade Carbon Content Tensile Strength Typical Use Cases
Grade A ≤0.20% Min. 330 MPa Light-duty applications (e.g., scaffolding, non-critical pipes).
Grade B ≤0.25% Min. 415 MPa General-purpose piping, higher pressure/load scenarios.
X42 (API 5L) - Min. 290 MPa Oil/gas transmission (higher ductility for pipeline flexibility).

Application:

1. Boiler and heat exchanger: the standard seamless steel pipe is often used in boilers and heat exchangers for heat transfer, with the performance of high temperature and pressure resistance;

2. Chemical industry: In the chemical industry, the standard pipe is widely used to transport chemical media, such as acid, alkali, etc., as the pipeline is required to have good corrosion resistance;

3. Oil and gas transmission: the standard is also commonly used in oil and gas transmission pipelines, as line pipe is required to have good tightness and pressure resistance;

4. Machinery manufacturing: In the field of machinery manufacturing, the standard seamless steel pipe is widely used to manufacture all kinds of mechanical parts, such as bearing casing, hydraulic cylinder pipe, etc.

Installation and Handling Considerations

  1. Welding and Joining:
    • ERW/EFW Pipes: Suitable for fusion welding (SMAW, GTAW) with E70XX electrodes; threaded or flanged connections for low-pressure systems.
    • SAW Pipes: Field welding requires preheating (100-200°C) for thick walls to prevent hydrogen-induced cracking.
  2. Corrosion Protection:
    • In corrosive environments (e.g., seawater, acidic soils), use galvanized pipes or apply external coatings (e.g., coal tar enamel).
    • Avoid contact with stainless steel to prevent galvanic corrosion.
  3. Thermal Expansion:
    • Install expansion loops or flexible couplings for steam lines to absorb thermal movement (max. temperature ~400°C for Grade B).
